Qualified paramedics

The minimum level of qualified paramedic is at the Advanced Care Paramedic II (ACPII) level.

Mandatory Requirements

Applicants must meet the below requirements to be eligible to apply for a Qualified Paramedic position:

  • Do you hold paramedic registration through Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra)? Applicants will require proof of qualification and current registration under the National Scheme as determined by the Paramedicine Board of Australia. Please refer to the Ahpra website for further information regarding national registration.
  • Do you hold a Queensland Light Rigid (LR) Driver Licence (for a manual motor vehicle) or are you able to obtain one prior to appointment? Note: Applicants who do not currently hold a LR Driver Licence, must have a minimum of a Queensland ‘C’ Class Driver Licence (for a manual motor vehicle) prior to the closing date for applications to be eligible to apply. An automatic driver licence or learner permit is not acceptable. You will be required to provide a certified copy (both sides) of your driver licence.
  • Are you eligible to work in Australia? You will be required to provide certified evidence of your ability to work in Australia (e.g. Australian citizenship, New Zealand citizenship, Australian resident status or a valid permanent work visa). The QAS does not sponsor or provide advice regarding required visas. Please visit the Department of Home Affairs website for information related to working in Australia.
  • Do you hold a minimum of an undergraduate degree in Paramedicine, or equivalent? Applicants must have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in Paramedicine or Health Science (Paramedic); or an Associate Diploma of Applied Science (Ambulance); or equivalent qualifications as determined by the Commissioner, QAS.
  • Do you have at least two years’ working experience as a paramedic, which may include the completion of a graduate program? The Qualified Paramedic Campaign is the most appropriate pathway for applicants who have had over two years’ working experience, practising at a level equivalent to an Advanced Care Paramedic II (ACPII) within an emergency care setting. Should you have less than two years’ experience, the Graduate Paramedic Program may be more suitable for you.

If you meet the mandatory requirements and are able to supply the required application evidence, you are eligible to submit an application during an active campaign.
