As part of your degree studies, you’ll need to complete clinical placements with qualified paramedics.

You’ll practice and develop your skills over several weeks while you experience what paramedic work is like.

Our partner universities

We offer placements to approved paramedic students who are enrolled in an undergraduate paramedic program at one of the following universities.

  • Australian Catholic University
  • Central Queensland University
  • Queensland University of Technology
  • University of the Sunshine Coast
  • University of Southern Queensland
  • Griffith University

Your university will usually help you organise your placement, but you’ll need our approval before you can start.

Getting approval

You need to do the following things before we can approve your placement.

Get a working with children clearance (blue card)

The Queensland Government issues blue cards, but you need to apply through your university.

Do a medical assessment

You can book your medical assessment with KINNECT, our approved medical provider.

Read the following documents before you book the appointment so you understand the cost, what’s involved, and what you need to do before your medical.

Make sure you read our medical assessment form [PDF 384.09 KB] before your appointment so you can answer questions about your health, medical history and vaccinations.

If you get ill or injured after your medical assessment, you’ll need to do another one before you can do your placement. You can give the results to your clinical placement coordinator or work integrated learning unit.

Fill in our clinical placement orientation checklist

You need to read and understand the information below. Once you’ve done this, fill in our clinical placement orientation checklist to confirm that you understand and meet our requirements.

Understand workplace health and safety

It’s important that you and others stay healthy, safe and well during your placement. Read our workplace health and safety overview [PDF 354.79 KB] to understand your rights and responsibilities.

Abide by our code of conduct

You must abide by the Queensland Government’s public service values and code of conduct while you're on placement.

The code sets minimum standards for how you and others should behave in the workplace. The following ethical principles underpin the code.

  • Integrity and impartiality
  • Promoting the public good
  • Commitment to the system of government
  • Accountability and transparency

Protect patient privacy

You may have access to private details about patients when on placement. You must understand your role in protecting this information so you can maintain confidentiality and protect patient privacy. Having patient trust is critical to providing high quality health care.

Your supervisor will give you more information about this when you start your placement.
