Team effort brings Christmas magic to North Mackay Station

Ross Kerswell (pictured above and below) is known as the Christmas elf of North Mackay Ambulance Station, where each year he constructs his home-built display out the front of the station.

However, when Ross suffered a stroke in the lead up to Christmas, it seemed there was going to be a piece of Christmas missing in the Beaconsfield community.

Ross, who has looked over the display for around 10 years, had conceded he would be unable to complete his annual tradition as he began his careful recovery.

Not unlike any good Christmas story, an unexpected hardship has only encouraged those around to rally together as his colleagues caught wind of his dilemma.

Under the watchful eye of Ross, the team at North Mackay Ambulance Station all pitched in to ensure the display was assembled to its usual standard.

And just like that, Ross’s iconic Aussie Christmas display was lighting up Holts Road once again!

Fellow officer Margot Reeves, who has worked with Ross for 18 years, said he has always enjoyed helping people while being remaining modest.

“Ross’s little motto is Believe, Create, Share – which he brings to life each year through his display and decorations around the station,” she said.

“Even as we set up the display over the afternoon, there were so many passing motorists honking their horns and yelling thanks out the window.”

We wish Ross all the best as he continues his recovery, and even hear that next year’s adaptation is already constructed and packed away ready to go.
