Darling Downs and South West Assistant Commissioner Peta Thompson and Paramedic Richard Taylor proudly presented nine-year-old Aubree Tidyman a Recognition of Bravery certificate after ultimately saving the life of her grandfather, Roland.
Aubree and Roland were travelling along the Warrego Highway on 1 December this year when Roland started to experience significant chest pain, forcing him to pull over the vehicle.
Young Aubree immediately called her dad, who dialled Triple Zero (000) to get paramedics underway.
Aubree was then able to flag down the paramedics and provide essential information to the crew – ensuring the best possible help for her grandfather in what would have been a very scary and confronting moment. Soon after arriving at hospital, Roland went into cardiac arrest.
At the Darling Downs and South West Awards Ceremony, held in Toowoomba on 19 December, Aubree and Roland were reunited with Richard who was honoured to hand over a QAS teddy and bravery certificate.
Ms Thompson said it was a pleasure to recognise the achievements of young Aubree, acknowledging that her actions were life-saving for Roland.
“When our younger community members are brave and courageous in their actions it is important to recognise how they make a life changing difference for others,” Ms Thompson said.
